Tax Credit Signed into Law

April 7, 2008

On April 1st, Governor Gregoire signed SSB 6809, which provides a state sales tax credit for working families.  The effective date is June 12, 2008.  This legislation, the Earned Income Tax Credit, provides a state refund to Washigton residents who receive the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) which is available only to low-wage earning workers.

For example, a hard working single parent with two children and earning less than $38,000 annually faces many obstacles simply to make ends meet.  Working poor families and individuals are vital to keep the economy moving.  But they face many economic challenges because of their low paying jobs.  This legislation will help hard working people at the lowest economic levels by providing an infusion of financial assistance that they can use for their most pressing needs.
