U.S. Senate Finance Committee to Act on SCHIP Legislation This Week
July 9, 2007
The U.S. Senate Finance Committee is drafting legislation to reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and will make final changes in order to move the legislation out of committee during the week of July 9. SCHIP is a program jointly administered by the federal government and the states that provides health care coverage for six million children nationally in poor and low-income families. This vital program provides health care to millions of children and allows coverage for children in families earning up to 200% of the federal poverty level.
Washington State has set a goal to provide health insurance to every child by 2010. A strong and well-funded SCHIP program will assist the state to reach this goal. Click here to read more and to take action.
